Die Selbsthilfekontaktstelle REKIS Cottbus bereitet die Neugründung einer Selbsthilfegruppe zum Krankheitsbild Myasthie vor. Myasthenia gravis (auch Myasthenie) ist eine Autoimmunerkrankung. Bei Betroffenen stören fehlgesteuerte Antikörper die Kommunikation zwischen Nerv und Muskel. Dadurch ermüdet die Muskulatur an verschiedenen Stellen des Körpers, vor allem unter Belastung und bei Müdigkeit. Häufig betroffen sind die Augen: Die Augenlider fallen zu oder können nicht mehr aktiv geschlossen werden. Die Betroffenen sehen zudem häufig Doppelbilder. Bei einem schweren Verlauf der Krankheit können die Patienten ihre Arme und Beine nicht mehr richtig bewegen, bis hin zu Lähmungserscheinungen. Sind Speiseröhre und Lunge betroffen, kann es zu gefährlichen Schluckbeschwerden, Hustenattacken sowie Atemnot kommen. Insgesamt gilt die Myasthenia Gravis mit einer Häufigkeit von bis zu sechs Patienten auf 100'000 Personen als seltene Erkrankung. Medizinisch spricht man von einer Autoimmunerkrankung, d.h. eine Erkrankung, bei dem sich das körpereigene Immunsystem gegen die Eiweiße des eigenen Körpers wendet. Ein Betroffener erzählt: Im Oktober 2022 musste ich mich in die Notaufnahme des CTK Cottbus begeben, weil ich plötzlich nicht mehr Reden und Schlucken konnte, doppelte Bilder sah und in allen Bewegungen stark eingeschränkt war. Im neurologischen Bereich des CTK hat sich ein kompetentes Team um mich gekümmert. Bis ich nach obiger Diagnose und beginnender Therapie sowie 7wöchigem Klinikaufenthalt in eine Reha entlassen wurde. Leider haben sich die Symptome wieder verschlechtert und ich musste im Januar 2023 wieder ins CTK Cottbus, weil ich starke Luftnot bekam. Ergab wieder 2 Wochen mit Intensivstation. Mit dieser Autoimmunerkrankung, die in starken Krisen durchaus lebensbedrohlich werden kann, muss ich nun im Leben zurechtkommen. Mit den wenigen zur Verfügung stehenden Medikamenten kann das Immunsystem relativ im Gleichgewicht gehalten werden. Trotzdem gibt es Schwankungen. Die Ärzte haben mir ans Herz gelegt, mich selbst und meinen Körper unter diesen Einflüssen der Myastenie neu kennen zu lernen und mein Leben zu organisieren. Wie geht das, wie machen das andere Betroffene? Für mich selbst, glaube ich, habe ich das schon recht brauchbar geschafft, aber es geht bestimmt noch viel besser. Meine Suche nach Betroffenen, Betreuern oder spezifischen Selbsthilfegruppen war bisher erfolglos. Mir ist es ein wichtiges Bedürfnis, mich mit anderen Betroffenen auszutauschen was geschafft ist und was noch geht. Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.
